Official Description

Shy, and tries to be avoided. Doesn't like being looked at, and gets jealous at people with more notebooks than him.

Description

Arts and Crafters' appearance is from a photograph of a sock puppet with two googly eyes attached to it, one of which is larger than the other. The sock color is a combination of gray, white, and black, with the black part being the “mouth” of the puppet. There is a red patch in the middle of his mouth that resembles a tongue.

In general, Arts and Crafters is very shy and dislikes being in anyone's attention. However, this changes once he spots someone with more notebooks than him, notably the player. He will start chasing after them aggressively without any warning while making static noises. His disdain for someone with more notebooks than him could stem from his own name, which refers to being an artist. To him, someone with more notebooks means that they are more successful than they are in being an artist.

During the aggressive state, Arts and Crafters moves extremely quickly, making him unable to turn around corners. As such, players can escape him for a while by running inside a classroom, but they will have to face him sooner or later when they get out of the room. In addition, the player can stop the triggered state of Arts and Crafters as long as they don't look at him for more than one second.

Gameplay

General

At the beginning of the game, Arts and Crafters will appear somewhere in one of the available rooms while avoiding the player. Whenever he is in the player's line of sight, he will run away quickly. Arts and Crafters is also capable of teleporting to random places, most commonly the end of hallways.

However, once the player manages to collect enough notebooks, Arts and Crafters will start chasing after the player aggressively if they look at him for more than one second. His mouth opens as he produces static noises and hunts down the player. Once he manages to catch up with them, he will clone himself to five other Arts and Crafters and begin to circle the player. After 10 seconds, he will teleport both the player and Baldi in front of a random door, with Baldi right behind them, and remain out of sight afterwards.

The player can avoid triggering Arts and Crafters by looking back repeatedly while being in front of him to avoid looking at him for too long, and he will continue to move normally. Another way to avoid being attacked is by using the Faculty Nametag, but only if he isn't triggered yet; otherwise, this item will be ineffective.

Field Trips

Before V0.3 of Baldi's Basics Plus, Arts and Crafters were among the students going on the camping trip. If the player wandered past the “NO” signs for more than 10 seconds, he would start chasing after the player and teleport them to the campfire, taking away their logs.

Other Appearances

  • Baldi's Basics Classic: Arts and Crafters appears in the cafeteria and only attacks the player if they possess enough notebooks; this happens in both Story and Endless Modes. When he manages to reach the player, he will teleport both them and Baldi to the place at the beginning of the game.
  • Baldi's Basics Birthday Bash: Arts and Crafters is one of the few characters to appear without any birthday accessories. He also joins others in the surprise party later in the game.
  • Baldi's Basics Classic Remastered: If he catches the player, he will teleport both them and Baldi to a place near an unreached exit.

Trivia

General

  • The design for Arts and Crafters draws inspiration from Sussie, a chinikin from The Amazing World of Gumball.
  • The audio of Arts and Crafters is based on a ROM corruption of Donkey Kong Country 2.
  • He is also one of the fastest characters in the Baldi's Basics series.
  • Arts and Crafters was planning to have a beanie plush, but it has yet to be released.

Baldi's Basics Plus/Classic Remastered

  • Arts and Crafters is the second-fastest character in the game, only behind The Test. However, because he moves so fast, he often runs past the entrance to the hallways, making it relatively easy to lose him.
  • The bubble gum from Beans can still hit Arts and Crafters even in invisible mode.
  • If the player is being sucked into the whirlpool or using the Dangerous Teleporter, Arts and Crafters cannot teleport them.

Baldi's Basics Plus

  • Although extremely rare, Arts and Crafters can teleport the player to the mystery room without the event being triggered on Floors 2 and 3.
  • Arts and Crafters can still move even when the player is looking at The Test or being reminded by Mrs. Pomp.

Baldi's Basics Classic/Birthday Bash

  • If the player uses hacks to make the names of characters visible, they will find out that Arts and Crafters becomes invisible instead of teleporting away.
  • There are 8 triggers that control Arts and Crafters, but they can only be seen in the 3D model map.

Baldi's Basics Classic

  • The original description of Arts and Crafters from the game was: “Truly an incredible sock puppet. I've never seen one like it!!”, but it was later changed due to not giving any hints regarding his abilities.
